Cookers

Coleman Dual Fuel (Sportster and Feather models).

Uses Unleaded Petrol or Coleman Fuel.  Boils a ½ litre of water in 4 mins (Sportster), 3 ½ mins (Feather).  Little bulk and weighs 874g (Sportster), 657g (Feather).  Can be unstable and requires care in use as the pump and control are close to the burner.  Cost Sportster £34.99, Feather £49.99

MSR  (Whisperlite and Expedition models).

Whisperlite uses jet fuel, paraffin, and petrol or Coleman fuel.  The Expedition uses diesel, aviation fuel, petrol, Coleman fuel and paraffin.  Boils a ½ litre of water in 3 ½ mins (Whisperlite) and 4mins (Expedition).  You get a windshield and heat reflector on both although the simmer control isn’t great.  Most reviews cite the Expedition as being the next best choice for going anywhere in the world (coming second only to another MSR model the Dragonfly, similar to the Whisperlite but costing £40 more) and the Whisperlite as the best for going most places in the world.  Cost £59.95 Whisperlite and £77.50 Expedition.

The North Face Base camp duffle bag:

The classic bomber expedition duffel. I have had the large size version of this bag for years & find it more than capable of handling the environments and elements I place it in. The build quality is second to none and waterproof material and removable backpack straps make travel easy (far less hassle at the airport compared to a standard rucksack with straps everywhere).

Specifications:

  • Alpine-cut shoulder straps
  • Dual daisy chains
  • D-zip with zipper flap
  • Four compression straps
  • ID pocket on top
  • Internal mesh pockets
  • Locking zippers
  • Rugged construction with extra bartacks and double stitching
  • Twin haul handles on ends
